BSPH 4400 - CLIMATE CHANGE: A PUBLIC HEALTH PERSPECTIVE[3 Credits] Climate change is a critical public health problem that makes many existing health conditions and diseases worse, and probable future health impacts that include the introduction of new pathogens and pests into new regions. The warming climate will likely cause more frequent and intense droughts and floods, more severe heat waves and hurricanes, and environmental impacts that adversely affect air and water quality. Furthermore, vulnerable populations are at increased risk for climate change related health effects. This course aims to provide students with an assessment of the current state of climate change science and the associated current and future predicted public health impacts. Adaptation and mitigation strategies on the local, regional, and national level will be explored that can increase the resiliency and sustainability of communities in the context of climate change impacts.
