ANAT 103 - ANATOMICAL DISSECTION AND AN INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN VARIATION[3 Hours] Anatomical dissection will be a largely self-directed course offered to first year medical students that were not able to participate in the traditional laboratory portion of the Gross and Development Anatomy course in the Fall of 2020 due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This course consists of a laboratory where students dissect an entire embalmed donor. The objectives of this course are to provide the first year medical students the opportunity to learn the foundations of the profession and to introduce them to human variation and numerous non-technical content. The students learn the basic concepts of anatomy and the clinical applications of such concepts. A significant part of this course is designed to emphasize the clinical importance of the anatomy students are learning. Students will work in teams and follow a written dissector that also includes video instructions to guide their efforts. Faculty will oversee student programs and be available for questions and assistance during the laboratory.
Prerequisite: ANAT 100
