COUN 5601 - FOUNDATIONS IN COUNSELING[3 Credits] This course provides a comprehensive introduction to clinical rehabilitation and counseling as a health profession, a multi-faceted process in increasing the ability of persons with a disability or other challenges to participate in all aspects of life, and a philosophy for promoting social justice and quality of life through support, information, advocacy, skill-building and equal opportunity. The course includes an exploration of the history, philosophy, trends, and practices of mental health counseling; the roses and functions of mental health counselors across practice settings; methods and models of clinical supervision; professional organizations, preparation standards, and credentials; and other related professional issues.
