COUN 6650 - COUNSELING RESEARCH PRACTICUM[1-6 Credits] The research practicum is designed to involve students with ongoing research in counseling. Students are involved in a variety of research activities with a designated faculty member that include: conceptualization of a research project, library research concerning a research topic, stimulus material design, data collection, data entry, data analysis, writing tasks relevant to the research, presentation of findings, and publication of research articles. Students are assigned to a faculty member. The specific nature of the student’s activities will be determined in consultation with the faculty member and formalized in a research practicum contract signed by both the student and faculty member. Credits may be taken in increments of 1 to 6 credits in any semester. A one-credit load is the equivalent of three hours per week of student activity. Students must accumulate a minimum of 3 credits of research practicum. Although students may take research practicum hours in addition to the 3 required, any such additional hours cannot be used to take the place of a program elective or special topics course. Permission of instructor is required.
