BIOMED 111 - Fundamental Concepts in Biomedical Sciences II[3 Credits] This graduate-level course emphasizes the molecular processes critical to understanding the complexities of living organisms at both the cellular and systemic levels, including host-pathogen interactions. This course focuses on genetics and genomics, immunology, microbiology, and cancer. Through assigned readings, lecture materials, and class discussions, students will gain a deep understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying genetic disorders, immune responses and dysfunction, the microbiome, and infectious diseases. Additionally, students will learn how foundational principles of precision medicine, immunology, and cancer-related cellular processes are applied in the development of chemotherapies, immunotherapies, and targeted therapies designed for disease resolution.
