NURS 3356 - MENTAL HEALTH NURSING THEORY[3 Credits] This course builds on knowledge gained in nursing theories and other disciplines, including social sciences and humanities. This course integrates the knowledge for nursing practice by exploring psychosocial, biological, and sociocultural determinants of mental health and illness across diverse populations. Emphasizing person-centered care, students will examine theories guiding assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based interventions for psychiatric disorders. The course addresses population health by considering the impact of social determinants on mental well-being. Through case studies and discussions, students will develop clinical judgment and skills in therapeutic communication to provide compassionate and culturally sensitive mental health nursing care, fostering professionalism and ethical practice. Prerequisites: NURS 2351, 2362, 2372 HLSC 3409, 3410. Corequisite: NURS 3366.
