NURS 7411 - ADVANCED PRINCIPLES OF ANESTHESIA[3 Credits] This course develops and applies advanced skills related to nurse anesthesia practice in the practice and administration of local anesthetics for regional anesthesia, and neuraxial anesthesia. This course covers techniques and complications for central venous access and lumbar punctures. The course follows the professional practice standards of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) with an emphasis on the pharmacology of local anesthetics, regional anesthesia techniques, neuraxial techniques, complications with regional techniques, complications with neuraxial techniques, ultrasound proficiency in regional anesthesia, and acute and chronic pain management. A simulation skills lab is included which focuses on ultrasound guided regional anesthesia for central neuraxial blockade, upper extremity, lower extremity, and truncal blocks as well as the use of ultrasound for vascular access.
