NURS 7207 - ADVANCED PSYCHIATRIC-MENTAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT & DIAGNOSTICS

Advanced Psychiatric-Mental Health Assessment & Diagnostics for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner builds upon the knowledge of Advanced Health Assessment and clinical neuroanatomy and neurophysiology to assess, diagnose, and intervene in dysfunctional coping patterns and psychiatric illnesses in individuals across the lifespan. Students will obtain skills in history-taking through using str4ctured psychiatric interviews, evidence-based rating scales, and observational methods. Students will develop the skills to evaluate presenting symptoms by integrating biopsychosocial perspectives. Emphasis is on the application of the foundational diagnostic framework of the DSM-5-TR (Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Text Revision) as the basis of diagnostic nomenclature and formulating differential diagnoses in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner role.
