OFP 5606 - OROFACIAL PAIN OFF-SITE CLINICAL ROTATIONS

Orofacial Pain residents are expected to attend off-site rotations as a supplemental educational activity at the following: Otolaryngology Rotation at LSU School of Medicine: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the LSU Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery/School of Medicine, where second-year Orofacial Pain residents will be exposed to the Otolaryngology service and how it relates to diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients with head and neck disorders and to Orofacial Pain. While on this rotation, residents will spend 32 hours and attend all Otolaryngology department lectures, literature review sessions, and rounds. Headache Rotation at LSU School of Medicine: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the LSU Department of Neurology-Non-Procedure Headache Clinic/School of Medicine, where second-year Orofacial Pain residents will be exposed to patients with acute and chronic headache, neuropathic disorders and facial pain working with a multidisciplinary team through evaluation, treatment options, medication, lifestyle modification, or pain related procedures. While on this rotation, residents will spend 32 hours total and will attend all headache and neuropathic pain department lectures, literature review sessions, and rounds while on this rotation. Neurology Rotation at LSU School of Medicine: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the LSU Department of Neurology-Neuromuscular (Botox and . Nerve Block) procedure clinic, where second-year Orofacial Pain residents are exposed to a variety of neurology, patients with chronic neuromuscular diseases, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders or disorders of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and their diagnosis and treatment. While on this rotation, residents will spend 32 hours total and will attend all neurology department lectures, literature review sessions, and rounds while on this rotation. Psychiatry Rotation at LSU School of Medicine: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the LSU Department of Psychiatry/School of Medicine, where second-year Orofacial Pain residents will be exposed to patients with mental health illnesses, familiarize themselves with the psychological aspects of common orofacial pain conditions, and highlight the importance of psychological intervention, where applicable, to provide effective long-term pain management in affected patients. Residents will spend 32 hours total on this rotation OMFS Rotation at LSU School of Dentistry: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the LSU Department of Oral Surgery/School of Dentistry, where second-year Orofacial Pain residents will be exposed to surgical procedures in the ambulatory clinic and operating room involving adult and pediatric patients, focusing on TMD procedures and learn the appropriate surgical follow-up of care. While on this rotation, residents will spend 32 hours total and attend Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department conferences, lectures, literature review sessions, and rounds. Sleep Medicine Rotation at SLVHCS Comprehensive Sleep Center: This is an observation clinical rotation course at the SLVHCS Comprehensive Sleep Center, where first-year Orofacial Pain residents will be exposed to a targeted adult and pediatric patient population with sleep apnea and insomnia through the multidisciplinary clinic. This will include sleep laboratory, behavioral sleep medicine, and sleep psychology. While on this rotation, residents will spend 32 hours total and attend all Sleep Medicine Department lectures, literature review sessions, and rounds.
