CHSP 7247 - DEVELOPING RESEARCH PROPOSALS

[3 Credits]
Students will learn about different public health granting agencies and their processes (federal, state, foundation, etc.). Students will then develop and apply research proposal writing skills. These will include proposal preparation and planning, writing the application, IRB involvement, grant submission, and grant review. These topics will be introduced through weekly seminars delivered by successful grantees from the SPH faculty. Students will be directed to grant source websites in advance so that class time can be focused on the discussion of the materials they have explored. Students will select a specific grant type that closely aligns with their research interest and write each section of a grant proposal as the semester progresses. Their final proposal will be presented as their final project (written and oral) and will be evaluated by a peer review process.
