HPSM 6290 - Public Health Law, Ethics, and Human Rights[2 Credits] This course examines the legal powers and duties of the state that exist to assure the conditions for people to be healthy and the limits on that power to constrain the autonomy, privacy, liberty, proprietary, or other legally protected interests of individuals for protection or promotion of community health. Consideration is given to the role of the state from legal and ethical perspectives, to the application of ethical principles to populations as well as individuals and to the inherent rights that exist for all humans to a healthy life.
