EPID 6223 - CHRONIC DISEASE EPIDEMIOLOGY[3 Credits] This introductory course provides an overview of chronic disease epidemilogy and prevention strategies. It is a companion course to Infectious Disease Epidemiology (EPID 6214). The course addresses the most important groups of chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, hypertension, cancer, diabetes, lung diseases and neurologic diseases. It focuses on the biological basis, incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality of chronic diseases as well as etiologic factors accounting for differences in incidence and mortality. Students will learn how to apply epidemiologic methods for chronic disease prevention and control studies and understand the importance of surveillance and applied research as a base for public health interventions. Prerequisite: EIPD 6210.
