NURS 4379 - NURSING LEADERSHIP IN THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM[5 Credits] A capstone leadership course, which builds on knowledge gained in basic sciences, humanities, and previous nursing courses. Standards of professional nursing practice including those from American Nurses Association (ANA), Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN), Sigma Theta Tau, American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), and other specialty organizations are incorporated into the course. This course provides the opportunity for clinical application of theory to expose registered nurses to leadership roles. In the practicum setting, students apply the core values of caring, professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence while being involved with organizational leaders as preceptors. Students examine and apply their own nursing leadership skills, distinguishing them from management skills, and analyze their individual leadership potential.
