NURS 4363 - PERIOPERATIVE NURSING[2 Credits] Perioperative Nursing is an elective course that builds upon knowledge gained in the basic sciences, humanities, and previous nursing courses. The course provides the student an opportunity to develop an increased knowledge of both theoretical and clinical aspects of nursing care in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative setting. Students learn the nurse’s role as the provider of care in perioperative settings. Course content is based on the
Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards, Recommended Practices, and Guidelines as well as the Perioperative Nursing Data Set and the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN) standards. Clinical experiences allow students to develop skills necessary for the perioperative nursing role. [45 hours practicum] Prerequisites: NURS 3351, 3362, 3372 or permission of the instructor.
