This course examines the history of public health nursing, the implications for today’s practice, the roles, responsibilities and competencies expected of the advanced practice public health/community health nurse in diverse health settings. Theoretical frameworks and research of the public health discipline applied to evidence based advanced public health/community health nursing practice and the implications for this practice are analyzed. The focus is advanced assessment of a).community needs and b). of a family, its cultural and other developmental needs, and the professional skills required to complete these. Prerequisites or Corequisites: NURS 6305, PATH 210, BIOS 6221.
