MICRO 100 - INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL IMMUNOLOGY

This course will provide students with foundational knowledge in immunology. Topics will include innate immunity, antibody structure, antigen recognition, B-cell immunity, and immune system development. Other topics will include immunoassays, mucosal immunity, principles of vaccination, hypersensitivity, immune deficiencies, autoimunity, and transplant immunology. It will serve as the foundation for student understanding about immunologic disese in more depth during the second year organ system blocks. It will also serve as the foundation for understanding the response to micorbvial pathogens in the development of infectious diseases.
