DENT 3134 - ADVANCED HEAD AND NECK ANATOMY[32 Credits] This course will review basic principles and facts relating to advanced anatomy of the head and neck and provide a basic understanding of the stomatognathic system in form, function and in pathofunction. Epidemiological and etiologic variables relating to various musculoskeletal, neurologic and vascular conditions affecting the head and neck will be presented. Particular emphasis will be placed on the effects of macrotrauma and microtrauma on the various components of the stomatognathic system. The fundamental aspects of the differential diagnostic process will be emphasized. A philosophy of stage, conservative, individualized treatment sequencing will be proposed. Additionally, criteria will be discussed which will distinguish between physiologic and non-physiologic occlusal function, and a technique for diagnostic occlusal equilibration will be presented.
