HPSM 6289 - THE ROLE OF GOVERNMENT IN HEALTH AND HEALTH CARE[3 Credits] This course examines the role of government in improving access to healthcare, controlling the costs, and improving the quality and safety of healthcare. The impact of recent developments in the private and public sectors including changes in the provider and payer systems and the experience of other countries with different systems for organizing and financing will be examined. Special topics will include prescription drugs, mental health services, long-term care and HIV. Prerequisite: HPSM 6288.
