DENT 2125 - ORAL PATHOLOGY

This course provides second year dental students with knowledge of diseases such that they may conduct themselves in a competent manner regarding such conditions during their school clinic activities and thereafter in practice. In view of this purpose, this course provides a thorough overview of oral and maxillofacial pathology, including orofacial developmental defects, odontogenic infections, periodontal diseases, oral infectious diseases, oral neoplasms, salivary gland diseases, odontogenic cysts and tumors, physical and chemical injuries, syndromes with oral manifestations, bone pathology, immune-mediated diseases and systemic conditions with oral manifestations. Each disease entity is discussed from the standpoint of definition, etiology, epidemiology, anatomic distribution, clinical and radiographic morphology, symptoms, microscopic features, treatment, and prognosis.
