Orofacial Pain, MSD

The LSUSD Advanced Education Program in Orofacial Pain begins July 1st of each year, and is 24 months in duration. Upon completion of the 24 month program, the resident will be awarded a certificate of Advanced Education in Orofacial Pain as well as a Master of Science in Dentistry degree, with eligibility to take the American Board of Orofacial Pain exam.

During the program, students will develop clinical expertise and demonstrate knowledge, diagnostic skills, and treatment expertise in areas including musculoskeletal, neurovascular, neuropathic pain disorders, sleep disorders related to orofacial pain, orofacial movement disorders, intraoral, intracranial, extracranial, and systemic disorders that cause orofacial pain and/or dysfunction. They will spend over 65 percent of the assigned time in clinical practice providing care for Orofacial Pain patients and rotating through several specialty medical clinics with the remainder comprising academic (didactic) courses, research, seminars, conferences and teaching.

Applicants should have strong academic qualifications and a demonstrated interest in Orofacial Pain. Any experience gained beyond dental school will enhance the applicant’s qualifications. A personal interview is mandatory to benefit both the applicant and the faculty. Applications can be submitted via the ADEA Postdoctoral Support Service (PASS).
