The Division of Libraries of the LSU Health Sciences Center at New Orleans includes the John P. Isché Library and the Dental School Library. The Isché Library occupies floors 3-5 of the Resource Center Building. The Isché Library is open over 100 hours per week over 7 days; the Library Commons, adjacent to the Isché Library, is available for study and relaxation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Dental Library occupies the third floor of the Dental Administration Building; the Dental Library is open open 50 hours per week over 5 days.
The New Orleans collection includes approximately 3,000 electronic monographs and 6,100 electronic serials and over 250,000 bound volumes. Library users have access to a variety of resources, including networked databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, EbscoHost and DynaMed), resource guides, and a web-based integrated library system (INNOPAC). All LSUHSC-NO patrons have remote access to subscribed e-journals and books. A dedicated link is provided to the full-text of articles and other content from most databases for subscribed materials.
Research & Education Librarians provide help with searching the Library’s over 200 databases. A fully equipped computer classroom is available for bibliographic instruction. Computer labs with multimedia programs, internet access, and assorted software programs for faculty and student use are located at both Libraries. Research & Education Librarians teach courses, seminars, and regularly schedule training sessions about the access and use of the biomedical literature and effective use of the Library. Library Liaisons work with each school’s faculty and students to ensure that appropriate library resources and services are available.
The Libraries offer online chat, reference and interlibrary loan services. Both Libraries have wireless networks. The Libraries serve as a Resource Library in the Network of the National Library of Medicine and are also members of South Central Academic Medical Libraries (SCAMeL) and LOUIS, a Louisiana academic library consortium.
