BCHS 6211 - INTEGRATION OF SOCIAL WORK AND PUBLIC HEALTH[1 Credit] This course is designed to integrate public health competencies for dual degree MSW/MPH students also studying human behavior and health theories in the Social Work program (e.g. SW 7001, 7002, 7009). Students will apply a public health and population lens to what they have learned in understanding complex interactions between individuals and the many systems (cultural, biological, physical and social) that make an impact on human behavior. Students will relate public health concepts to introductory knowledge of the importance and use of behavioral theories in designing, implementing and evaluating public health interventions. Students will examine public health and social science theories in light of the impact of class, poverty, location, sexism, ageism, physical ability, ethnicity, and culture.
