PSYC 460 - INTRODUCTION TO MEDICAL HUMANITIES FOR PSYCHIATRISTS[9 Hours] This four-week course provides students with broad exposure to several aspects of medical humanities pertinent to their future careers as psychiatrists. This provides a platform for students to engage with peers and faculty to discuss topics often not included in the medical school curriculum, and encourages students to understand and appreciate the role of humanities in their development is well-rounded, thoughtful and empathic physicians.
The students will meet for 3 hours three days per week with a faculty member/instructor for seminars in a total of five areas: 1-Narratives/Reflective Writing; 2-History of Psychiatry; 3-Visual Media; 4-Literature and Psychiatry; 5-Philosophy of Psychiatry.
A syllabus with provided reading and visual materials will guide students in their submission of a weekly short blog entry or creative writing. Students are welcome to participate in medical humanities research projects. This course is pass/fail.
