MCLIN 205 - PEER TUTORING ELECTIVE

[3 Hours]
This elective provides an opportunity for students to learn and explore the teaching aspect of medical education. Students participating in the Peer Tutoring Elective will have a series of introductory lectures given by the SOM Learning Specialist, and then have the opportunity to practice through tutoring underclassman. The course will allow students to learn about teaching skills, begin to build their own teaching style, develop and analyze their sessions through creating detailed tutoring reports, and fine tune their teaching through tutee and learning specialist feedback. The introductory workshops will cover course expectations, effective teaching/tutoring strategies, tips from course directors, analyzing and evaluating student performance and how to offer formative feedback. Once the workshops are completed, students will be eligible to sign up to tutor and will be matched with a tutee. Students who earned H or HP grades in first year coursework that they are interested in tutoring in may be enrolled in this elective by course instructor approval (Associate Dean for Student Affairs or Learning Specialist)
